Never too late
I called my birthMa, Lyn, almost daily since my Mom died years ago. They were both in Chicagoland, and I'm now south of Seattle, so it was a 13-year phone relationship. Lyn sometimes called herself "dumb ass" or "idiot". At first I told her Cornelius reminded us to be kind to ourselves. That didn't really help, so in November, when she turned 89, I told her when she did that I just winced and felt really badly for her (and inside said, "I consciously disagree"!) I asked her to stop doing that when she was talking to me, and she finally did.
In December, she was dozing in her chair and woke up and heard in her head, "When are you going to stop punishing yourself?" She had been raped by her father at age 4 and felt guilty for 85 years.
She transitioned last Friday, and I want to thank CC and both Families, as I think she got the Wisdom of that experience before she passed.
